I am so pleased that anyone replied to this. (>")>

Looking at the composition of the Earth, I suppose Andy votes for Iron!

I can't believe I called Bromine a Noble Gas. I'm pretty embarrassed, even if it's an IR topic. Tyme to eeediiiit.

First of all, why is Metals one tiny category, when the other 3 categories occupy less than 1/3rd of the periodic table put together?? I can't decide between alkali earth metal favorites, and transition metals, and there's just too many good ones!!

Nonmetals:

Carbon

Metals:

Calcium, Platinum

Halogens:

Iodine

Noble Gases:

Xenon

Quality over quantity! It takes a miniscule weight percentage of Carbon to turn a slab of Iron into glorious steel. o;

...

I'm sorry metals. I didn't mean it. I love you.

Iron is the megaman of elements. It takes on the properties of elements that it's diluted with.

Add a little tungsten, and not even the highest speeds and friction will shake your resolve as you laugh in the face of temperatures that would make other metal alloys quake with fear and shiver apart at the atomic level.

Befriend magnesium, and fists no longer punch your face. Your faces punches THEM. You cannot be rattled by even the greatest of impacts.

Having more iron than the other guy might as well be having more dick. Much more dick. A dick that knows nothing of fatigue, or epidermal agitation. A dick that will take 50 clothes pins and just laugh at the frustration of the sadistic dominatrix bitch applying them.

And its charm doesn't stop at versatility and rugged muscle. It's the stuff of fables and legends. Dat magnetism. Dat ability to shift energy seamlessly between electronic and mechanical. Magnetic poles simulating infallible human memory. Oh my god! Gerbil! How dare you speak ill of this beast of the Boolean logic, this emperor of industry, this enhancer of its fellow webs of opposingly charged particles.

Apollo ceased forging new modules with which the Gods should craft the universe when he arrived at iron. For when he looked upon it, he saw that it was perfect. And to continue any further would be an insult to this work.

...

Nah. They're all pretty cool though.

Noble and modest is gentle Carbon, so that it must be I who speaks in his stead!

Irons and other metal alloys are an ode to excess and extravagance! It was through the low burning point of organic wood, made with O, H, and above all else, C, that allowed us to create and tame fire at the dawn of mankind! And further, through that wood we reached easily processed paper that has stored our species' great knowledge for centuries! Knowledge that came from a brain made of Carbon. Carbon is life. YOU ARE CARBON!

100 years ago the bottlers of the world would have never dreamed that glass bottles would be totally and utterly dominated by plastic. Now we know that it doesn't matter if Fe or Steel or Silica or Alumina melt at incredible temperatures, because that's also energy needed for processing and reprocessing! Glory to C and the other organics that are useful in everyday life; economical and recyclable!

Recyclable polymers that have the ability to intermingle, intimately, but immiscibly into crystalline and semi crystalline matrices to form composites strong enough to build bridges out of, while still being light enough to float over water!

Go a day without HDPE my friend. One. Day.

Multitudinous in versatility, and unmitigated by claims of being weak and useless, perhaps even "casual," C stands as a testament to humanity's wisdom and cunning, as opposed to the brutish applications of the metals that are excessive in properties beyond practical usage!

But really, I do like the metals, too. PZT FTW.

Also, it's in calcium carbonate, and chalk and ash are both awesome!! (Don't ask, I'm weird :P).

That's why it's my favorite nonmetal :D
